Angela Rayner's 'hypocrisy' exposed as she faces probe
Labour deputy leader faces allegations of breaking lockdown and affair with fellow MP
Rayner has previously slammed others for 'breaking the rules'
Angela Rayner, Labour's deputy leader, is facing a probe over allegations that she broke lockdown rules and had an affair with a fellow MP.
The allegations have been made by Lord Ashcroft, a Conservative peer and former party treasurer. In a blog post, Ashcroft claims that Rayner had an affair with Sam Tarry, the Labour MP for Ilford South, and that she visited his flat during lockdown.
Rayner has denied the allegations, calling them "completely untrue". She has also said that she will cooperate fully with the Labour Party's investigation into the matter.
The allegations come at a time when Rayner is already under fire for her criticism of the government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. She has accused the government of "failing to protect the public" and of "putting the interests of their donors ahead of the interests of the country".
The allegations against Rayner are likely to further damage Labour's reputation, which has already been tarnished by the party's handling of the pandemic and the recent resignation of its leader, Jeremy Corbyn.
